“And…I LOVE LOVE LOVE YOUR PURPLE HAIR!”

That’s what the really nice lady said at my Chiropractor’s office today as she pulled me into one of the  Treatment rooms.

It had been a really long wait at his office today because he celebrates Passover and had squished in a bunch of appointments earlier in the day so he could leave in the afternoon, so I had waited over an hour.  And what surprised me was that I didn’t get too stressed out about it.  I gotta bring my book more often because I bet this happens every once in awhile.  That’s all.  Otherwise, I tried to use it as chill out time.

Anyway, the incredibly spunky lady who works the front desk (I haven’t met her yet till now since this is only my 2nd treatment and I think this doctor has 2 women working for him and I’ve met the other one only) pulled me in the room and quietly said but with exclamation, “OK.  2 things…” and she gestured her 2 fingers up in the air to stress her point.  “The first thing before we get started…I’m so so so sorry for the wait today.  Our office is closing early because we are celebrating Passover so we are distracted (but don’t worry he won’t be distracted when he’s with you).” she said in a hushed voice.  And then she still so discreetly continued, “Plus as you know the traffic was awful due to all this stupid construction out there and it was hard to find a parking spot so all of our patients have been later today.” And she had a brief pause and said, “AND…” and I’m not kidding you, she starts almost flailing her arms up and down and hopping a little bit, “I LOVE LOVE LOVE YOUR PURPLE HAIR!  I LOVE IT!  I LOVE IT!  I LOVE IT!”.  So I’m starting to laugh out loud about her reaction to my hair because she caught me so off guard because she was so careful at first with what she was telling me and then she says, “I’m sorry.  I would’ve said it earlier and I’ve been DYING to tell you for over an hour but I didn’t want to single you out in front of the other patients and I wanted to stay quiet but since you’re in here now I can tell you.  I CAN HARDLY CONTAIN MYSELF!  YOUR HAIR IS SO AWESOME!”.

(Well OK then…)

There I am and I’m supposed to be having worked on relaxing (already know this after my first treatment) so that the doctor can work on looser muscles and joints if possible and she’s getting me all excited about my hair.  And so we had this lovely giggly conversation about how much she loved it and loved that I had the guts to have purple hair and how she could NEVER have purple hair in her world so she just applauds women all the time who just express themselves and let themselves be “WILD” as she almost yelled again…

“OK.  OK.  I have to calm down now so you can calm down or the doctor will be mad at me for getting you excited but then again he wants us to be warm and friendly to you and loving so this is what he gets.  Anyway, I love it.”

I thanked her a bunch and even after the treatment and she still pointed it out as I left.

What a hot ticket that lady is!  Can’t wait to see her again and more.  She seems like someone I need more of in my life.  I want her energy.

As for my 2nd Chiropractic Treatment, it was really great.  The doctor came in and said, “Hey Superstar!” and I said “Is that because I made it to my 2nd appointment?” (by the way, it’s hard to talk with your face down in those things on the table but anyway…) and he said, “Absolutely!” And we talked about how I was doing.  I told him all the improvements I had been feeling since just the first appointment and some of the symptoms I was having and we got started.  Wow.  He really does so much work on the body AND he makes me work too.  LOTS OF BREATHING.

LOTS OF BREATHING.

Apparently oxygen is GOOD FOR YOU.

And I nearly jumped off the table (not sure how since I was face down…) as he ground his hand into my foot because it was “Ow-ie” and yet it was a relief or I would’ve stopped him.  At one point I had this crazy fit of giggles, more like a BURST of giggles (my usual giggles times 10 at least) as he released something in my neck (one of the biggest issues right now in my body) and I told him I just had to laugh and he said, “DO IT!  LET IT OUT!  WHOOO!  YOU LET THAT OUT!  You deserve it.  You just undid a HUGE knot!  WE DID!  I feel it too.  I wanna laugh too!  THAT WAS AWESOME!” and so I did a burst of giggling (I have already heard some of the craziness that is coming out of these rooms with other patients while he’s treating them and it’s only been 2 times there so I must’ve also sounded pretty funny with my huge BURST and he was cracking up too).  It felt good to get it out and then just as fast as it came on, it left.  He said that would happen but with different emotions and to keep letting it out.

We did a bit more treatment, he had me drink some water to rest and regain my equilibrium and I was on my way.  I can tell this whole Chiropractic experience is gonna be quite a trip!  So much personality in that office.  Other doctors and their personnel could learn A LOT from these cool people.  WOW!

As for how I’m feeling a few hours afterwards, I’m definitely doing better than the first treatment.  My body isn’t in as much “SHOCK” as it was the first time.  It kinda gets it now.  Who knows what’s next.  For right now I’ll take whatever I can get for relief.

RELIEF.

I like that word.

Definitely feeling pretty even with my emotions and my body right now too.  I’ll take it as long as I can.

I have my next chiropractic treatment Thursday.  Can’t even imagine what’s in store!

WHOA! Chiropractic Treatment is CRAZY…but good…I Think?!

Gonna keep this short because I’m supposed to be resting and finishing up here but I wanted to share with you all that I had my first Chiropractic treatment today!  Oh…and I SURVIVED!

CRAZY STUFF that mode of therapy.  My body was twisted, stretched, beaten, shoved, poked, vibrated and manipulated into numerous positions I DIDN’T KNOW existed.  And the awesome part is that there was some RELIEF.

RELIEF.

That’s a nice word isn’t it?

And there was some pain and strangeness to it.  My mind more than anything was trying to figure out WHAT THE HECK I had gotten myself into next…It was almost like it was saying THANK YOU at one moment and then WHAT THE?! the next and then it was like it started speaking to me and the therapist.  He said, “Your body knows what it wants.  It’s thanking me right now.  It wants help getting the walls down and opening the doors”…

CRAZY.  Like I said.

For years I have said that I want to be SOOOO STRETCHED in ways that no one could understand I was talking about.  Perhaps this may be what I’m liking for right now.  I was told I may feel some emotional fits and strangeness as the tightness and toxicity gets cleaned out and that I may feel some popping and cracking and pain and tingling here and there and perhaps a bit dizzy and strange.  Yes the dizzy and strange comes and goes since the first treatment.  That’s for sure.

Before the treatment he was going over a whole work up report he had made up for me and showed me which parts of my vertebrae were in trouble and damaged and were also out of alignment and then he showed me all the symptoms that show up from these trouble areas and it was BAFFLING TO SEE some of the symptoms I have brought up to EVERY singe medical professional I can come up with and NONE of them have ever been able to really help me.

It was as if my body had found a TRANSLATOR for some of my major perplexing issues…

CRAZY.

And it helps that he’s nice, normal and he wants to heal.  I can feel that.  He also must be incredibly strong with the work he was doing on me.  WOW!

So I’ve made a 6 month commitment to see him for intense treatment and he said he could guarantee me I could feel 40-50% better at least than I do now with how I am.  HE ACTUALLY GAVE ME A DEADLINE!

A TIME COMMITMENT!

I have to do what he’s asked me to do for exercises and other devices he gives me to help me out too so we’ll be working as a team.

CRAZY.

So yeah I’m scared because it’s a whole new road but you know what?  It’s almost like I’m thinking I should be scared because it’s new but I really am not.

I HAVE HOPE.

That’s a wonderful thing.  It’s the first time I’ve felt positive all week to be honest.  It’s been one of those weeks…

Goodnight all.

May you all find some hope in your next day.  It’s out there.

I learned a new saying that helps me a lot:

H-hold

O-on

P-pain

E-ends

I believe this.  I hope you do too.

I can LIVE. I can FUNCTION. I can DO.

A week ago today I was in the ER TRYING to get some answers about why I felt digestively HORRIBLE!

TODAY: I feel sooooooo much better!

AMAZING!  I am truly grateful.  It means so much to me to be feeling better.  Sure, I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop (you know, that infamous shoe that is always hovering and just waiting with baited breath to drop) but it hasn’t happened yet.

I definitely still have recovering to do BUT I can eat.  I can LIVE.  I can FUNCTION.  I can DO.

ACTUALLY:

Despite the absolutely miserable week I had last week until about Friday, I have received 3 VERY GOOD PIECES OF HEALTH NEWS that I feel I MUST pass on to you.

1. I heard from my Rheumatologist that all of my bloodwork came back really great and stable and that she firmly believes my lupus has gone into REMISSION.  It doesn’t mean I won’t have symptoms BUT it does mean that all of my organs are healthy and I am stable.  There is definitely no sign of a FLARE of any kind.  I’ll take it for as long as I can!

2. I had an appointment with my MS Specialist Neurologist today and he told me he felt like my MS was under control and that despite all of the crap I had been through in the past week (or even in the past 2 months digestively overall) that I am doing extremely well and my physical well being according to an MS standpoint is BETTER than it was in July!  He’s very happy with my progress.  Now this is with having a VERY early appointment this morning, hardly having time to shower, and rushing to eat (and thank goodness I could even do any of that–not sure how I would’ve gotten there had I felt any worse but I digress and think about things I don’t need to), and being half asleep the whole time.  WOW!  It usually takes me about 4 hours every day to really feel like maybe I can get through a day.  It’s just the way it is.

3. And now it seems that getting a 2nd opinion from a different Gastroenterologist paid off for me.  It’s all about new input and different experiences.  My 1st Gastroenterologist has been really integral in getting my health where it was until about a few months ago.  I do believe it’s time for a change.  This new guy might just be my choice.  He saw things a bit differently, approached it on a different path and convinced me to JUST TRY (he really emphasized that because I was so against more medications) this new medication treatment and see what I thought.  If it didn’t work, then he’d try something else.  Come to find out, my Primary Care Physician’s newer Physician Assistant knew of this specific specialist and was pleased to hear I was seeing him.  She said her experience is that he is VERY GOOD and an expert with what I’m dealing with.  Well OK then.  Guess it was the right choice.

4. BONUS: I just had to add this because my goodness, I just brought up all these titles of medical professionals in 3 paragraphs.  I think I need to get some credit for being able to come up with their names when my head is so tired.  Phew!  Rheumatologist (and how on earth would anyone know how to spell this if they hadn’t seen it written out tons of times?), MS Specialist Neurologist (so specific), Gastroenterologist (took me forever to figure out there was an “e” there and not an “i”–not sure why there isn’t an “i” but anyway), Primary Care Physician, Physician Assistant…WHOA!  I AM TRULY GRATEFUL TO HAVE ACCESS TO SUCH TALENTED PROFESSIONALS IN THEIR FIELDS who are so proactive with my health and were completely available for me in just 1 week!  In fact, if you count my first Gastroenterologist, he was also available to me, I just didn’t agree with what he was thinking about my health situation at the time…

So all very very good things are finally happening.  It is about time.  I’m going to cherish them as long as I can because as we all know, everything can change in an instant.  Now about cures…  You know, I stopped expecting cures for anything I’m going through a long time ago.  I’m really just looking for relief and to feel better with a much more improved quality of life.  Waiting for a cure would make me STOP living and I am doing everything I can to LIVE.

IT IS ONE HARD JOB TO LIVE BUT I’M DETERMINED TO DO IT!!

P.S.  I’ve been quite reflective lately about all I have been through.  I think a lot of it has to do with my 10 year MS diagnosis Anniversary coming up.  10 YEARS…I think that speaks for itself.  I feel a very personal Blog Post coming in the very near future.  Stay tuned.  Right now it’s all still processing.  It will be direct from my heart.

LOVE TO ALL!!!

*And special thoughts go out to those affected by Crazy Storm Sandy.  Wishing for peace and relief for all of you!

POSITIVES!

Hello!  Happy Weekend!

Today has been much better than any other day this week!  2 VERY COOL POSITIVES have happened today!

1. I looked at my bank account and was taken aback because there was A LOT of money in there!  It appears that Social Security Disability has FINALLY paid me what they owe me!  I don’t have any written confirmation yet that helps me do the calculations to make sure this is accurate BUT it’s a HUGE step in the right direction!  IT IS ABOUT TIME!  I have waited almost exactly 2 years for them to get it right.  Such a long, arduous and stressful process.

2. I saw a new Gastroenterologist for a 2nd opinion yesterday and it was a really refreshing appointment.  It is so nice to be listened to and to be able to ask all kinds of questions while the doctor PATIENTLY reacts.  I don’t get PATIENCE very often.  Anyway, we THINK we may have some answers about how to help me so I am experimenting with a new treatment and a new theory altogether that should help.  And you know what?  It’s been almost 24 hours since I started it and I’m definitely feeling some RELIEF.  I’m not all better or even close to that, but it was so nice to be able to feel more like MYSELF today and function so much better.  I almost felt like a different person than I have been in quite awhile.  I hope this continues but for now I’m happy with whatever relief I can get when I get it.

Alrighty.  Gonna jump off.  I’ve done way too much today and still need to exercise before having some dinner.  And it’s cool to think that dinner might actually be more than toast.  Thank goodness.  There’s only so much toast a person can eat.  And hey, maybe I’ll even be able to eat my 3rd meal today without having my digestive system freaking out on me the second any food touches it…

SOUNDS GOOD TO ME!!!

Hope y’all have a good weekend!  I’m looking forward to mine!  It’s nice to have some HOPE and actually FEEL it!

ACUPUNCTURE TODAY!

I have a one track mind today. It’s called ACUPUNCTURE AT 3PM TODAY!!!!!

My body has had more than enough of this sun and heat and so have I! Yes, it’s summer and Blah Blah Blah but for goodness sakes, I need some relief!

Sure, air conditioning is fabulous and closed blinds help but there’s only so much a cool dark cave can do. When it’s hot it’s HOT. My body knows it. I can’t fool it. I tend to hold in the heat and stock up on it just in case I end up freezing one day (hmm, it’s been YEARS since that’s happened) and I am rarely ever cold. I also am a sponge to humidity and suck in the dampness and then I’m really in trouble. Heat and dampness don’t mix well in a multiple scleroris/lupus world. Nope. No they don’t.

Heck, MS and lupus don’t mix together either but that’s a whole other topic.

I’m grateful to have found acupuncture years ago and been willing to try it. It’s not a cure but it sure has reduced my body temperature a great deal. I still remember my first appointment and treatment with this wonderful lady. She told me I carried too much heat and dampness and she was going to cool me down and dry me out. I HAD NO IDEA the effect it would really have on me. While I laid on that table in that strange room with all these weird needles in me (DON’T LOOK) with a lovely eye pillow on my eyes and relaxing music playing in the background, I started feeling what felt like a door/window open in my right arm and it was like this rush of cool air started working its way in up my arm, across my shoulders and into my left arm and kept going throughout my body. I was convinced it was someone turning on the AC or was blowing a fan on me. Nope. It was the effect of acupuncture and because I was so seriously boiling hot internally the relief was almost overwhelming! When I told my Acupuncturist about my physical sensations, she was thrilled. It was exactly what she was hoping for and yet she was baffled. She said I must be really sensitive because most people aren’t so aware of how they’re feeling during their treatment and will tell her later instead of right then. (I continue to be that sensitive years later and she says she LOVES to treat me because she gets more of an idea of what works and what doesn’t with me.)

After a few more treatments I was committed to keep on going with these acupuncture treatments. In fact, the relief of the intensity of symptoms (my body was throbbing with symptoms at that point) had me on a big HIGH a few weeks later because it was like the endorphins knew how to function again and the ABSOLUTE PLEASANTNESS I felt was unbelievable. I was bouncy and unbelievably light and happy. Everything was GREAT! Now realistically that didn’t last but it was a nice feeling to have at the time. I had NO IDEA I COULD FEEL BETTER…

I soon found acupressure treatments at the same office and swear by those too. It is acupressure that has loosened up my body the most and helped me to function with daily activities and in the world.

Sooooo needless to say, I CAN’T WAIT FOR MY ACUPUNCTURE APPOINTMENT TODAY AT 3PM! IT CAN’T COME SOON ENOUGH!
